Yakutia district inhabitants face life-threatening situation under flight ban, restricting social connections

In the remote and heavily dependent-on-air-transport region of Bulunsky District, a crisis has unfolded as all socially important flights have been suspended since September 15, 2025. This decision has left residents stranded, unable to return home from vacations, business trips, or visits to relatives.

The cancellation of flights has also posed a significant challenge for those in need of urgent medical treatment. Many villages in the district lack specialists, and the lack of flights makes reaching Tiksi, the nearest city, nearly impossible. This situation puts the health of residents at risk, as they are unable to access necessary medical care.

Taxi services are available, but the high cost – a one-way trip costs 1500₽ – makes them an unfeasible option for many. 'Polar Airlines', prepared to operate, faces a lack of funds due to the budget not allocating any. The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) authorities have not provided the necessary funds, potentially risking the health and lives of the residents.

The only means of transport for residents to reach their homes is a helicopter, but the high cost and limited availability make this option inaccessible for many. The distance between Tiksi and the airport is 7 kilometers, with no public transport available.

The socially important routes are crucial lifelines for the residents, connecting them to essential services and resources. The government responsible for providing additional funds for the resumption of these flights is the government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

Some villages in Bulunsky District do not even have pharmacies, making the current situation even more dire. Air transport is not considered a luxury but a matter of survival in this region.

The residents of Bulunsky District have demanded an immediate solution and additional funding. They fear being held hostage by the current situation and hope for the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) government, particularly the Ministry of Transport, to clarify the issue and find funds to resume social flights by 'Polar Airlines'.

The online publication will continue to monitor the developments regarding this issue. The editorial of the online publication hopes for a swift resolution and the resumption of socially important flights to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents of Bulunsky District.
