Wizz Air Expands Operations in Sibiu, Romania for 2025 Winter Season

Sibiu International Airport is set to experience a significant boost in air travel as budget airline Wizz Air announces an expansion of its operations in the city for the upcoming 2025 winter season. This expansion includes the addition of a second Airbus A320ceo aircraft, the launch of six new routes, and an increase in flight frequencies on existing routes.

This move results in a 48% increase in seat capacity compared to 2024, offering over one million seats to and from Sibiu.

Key details of Wizz Air's expansion in Sibiu include:

  • New Routes: Six new routes have been launched recently, including a new connection to Milan Bergamo starting January 6, 2026, operating three times weekly (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays).
  • Current Route Network: Including new additions, Wizz Air will operate flights from Sibiu to 13 destinations across six countries in the 2025 winter season. Destinations include Basel, Frankfurt Hahn, Hamburg, Madrid, Rome Fiumicino, Vienna, and others.
  • Frequency Increases: Increased flight frequencies on several routes:
  • Memmingen: increased to daily flights.
  • Nürnberg and Baden-Baden: increased to four weekly flights each.
  • Aircraft Base Growth: Wizz Air has newly stationed a second Airbus A320ceo aircraft at Sibiu, enabling the expanded network and increased capacity.

In addition to route and frequency expansion, Wizz Air is investing in infrastructure by opening a dedicated maintenance hub in Romania, which will support its growing Romanian fleet, including aircraft based at Sibiu, enhancing operational efficiency.
