Recently, a British traveler named S.D.T.J learned this the hard way. Upon arrival in Noi Bai International Airport, he assumed his visa information had already been recorded in the system and did not present his electronic visa (e-visa) at immigration.
As a result, he was admitted under Vietnam's unilateral visa exemption policy and granted temporary stay until March 16, 2025. Even though his e-visa was valid from February 3, 2025 to April 24, 2025, he inadvertently overstayed his permitted stay when he failed to double-check the duration of his stay.
According to Vietnamese regulations, foreign nationals who overstay their temporary residence permits by between 30 and under 60 days face specific administrative fines ranging from approximately $192 to $385 USD. In extreme cases, deportation may also be imposed as a supplementary penalty.
