How virtual time travel is set to attract new tourists - Uslar Launches Innovative AR/VR City Tour to Revitalize Town Center

Uslar, a town in Lower Saxony, Germany, has launched an innovative virtual city tour to attract new tourists and revitalize its center. The tour, starting at the Old Town Hall, offers a unique blend of history and technology, immersing visitors in the town's past through Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR).

The tour begins at the Old Town Hall and includes 11 stations, not all of which are visited during each tour. Former Renaissance prince Erich II and court architect Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves appear at selected points, sharing historical insights using AR. City guide Jürgen Fischer accompanies visitors, dressed as Duke Erich II, who also appears virtually during the tour.

The Uslar app allows visitors to view certain scenes without using XR glasses, making the experience accessible to a wider audience. The city aims to attract new tourists and revitalize its center with this innovative technology, which is seen as an addition to traditional city tours. City guides are available to answer questions about the topics or the technology.

Uslar offers virtual time travel experiences using XR glasses, allowing visitors to explore the city's history from the past 500 years. The technology immerses participants in historical scenes, such as the castle Freudenthal and the city wall under siege. The project in Dresden offering a similar virtual experience for tourists, named 'IMPRESSION DEPRESSION,' inspired the residents of Uslar.

The virtual city tour in Uslar is open to everyone from 13 years upwards, with tours typically accommodating groups of up to five participants. The Lower Saxony Heimatbund supports the use of innovative technology to engage younger generations in historical knowledge. Uslar's innovative approach to tourism is expected to draw visitors seeking a unique and engaging experience that combines history and technology.
