UK's Birmingham and Edinburgh Airports Lift 100ml Liquid Restriction by 2025
Two UK airports, Birmingham and Edinburgh, have lifted the 100ml liquid restriction rule by 2025, thanks to new CT-scanners. This change follows the rule's introduction in 2006 to enhance passenger safety after a Heathrow Airport incident.
The 100ml rule applies to a wide range of items, including beauty products, beverages, and gels. Passengers can now pack liquids in their carry-on or checked baggage at Birmingham and Edinburgh airports, with each method having its own advantages. Despite this change, always check specific airport rules to avoid security surprises.
While many countries still enforce the 100ml rule, certain airports have scrapped it, allowing containers up to two litres in hand luggage. However, the container itself must not exceed 100ml. Exceptions include essential medical items, infant or child feeding, or duty-free purchases. Each liquid must be stored in a single container and placed in a resealable plastic bag when going through security.
Birmingham and Edinburgh airports have led the way in the UK by removing the 100ml liquid restriction. This change offers passengers more convenience while maintaining high safety standards. However, travellers should remain aware of the rules at their departure airport and destination.
