This language - once born from the wise union of Mitti, a spouse of Kutkh, the Great Creator of Ravens - has managed to live on, despite centuries of challenges.

Despite the many hardships pouring down on Itelmen, a handful of tenacious individuals have fought tirelessly to keep it from fading away, and their efforts have paid off. Thanks to their diligent work, we have dictionaries, textbooks, Itelmen classes in schools, and language courses for adults.

Three prime locations help achieve these objectives: Kovran School, Kovran Cultural House, and the Kamchatka Regional Scientific Library. These places cater to different audiences and age groups, striving to improve Itelmen by providing classes that the eager-to-learn itelmen children show genuine enthusiasm for. Puppet Theater
Bringing our stories back to life through a enchanting puppet theater has proven to be a hit! We were inspired to introduce this form as a scenic representation for community members - both young and old - after consulting with elders and knowledge holders. These puppet shows not only support language development but also attract curious minds who want to understand the stories behind the puppets.
