Smartwings Passenger Praises Meal, Comfort, Lacks Inflight Entertainment

A passenger recently flew with Smartwings, a Czech airline, and shared their experience. The journey began with a pre-ordered meal and ended with a reflection on the airline's services.

The passenger started their trip by ordering a 'Hot chicken schnitzel (250 g) with vegetable garnish and bread slices' for $23.30. Upon arrival at the gate, they encountered strict bag weight enforcement, with gate agents checking each bag's weight using a handheld scale, ensuring they did not exceed the 8 kg limit.

Boarding involved a crowded bus ride and a hike up the jet bridge stairs to reach the Airbus A220-300 aircraft. The plane offered good legroom, USB-A and USB-C ports, and a personal device holder at each seat, providing a comfortable journey. The inflight meal, which was the same as the pre-ordered meal, was praised as one of the best the passenger had on a narrowbody aircraft.

The passenger chose the Plus fare, which included a checked bag, a personal item, and a seat assignment, costing about 50% of the upgrade. The Lite fare, on the other hand, only included a large carryon bag but no personal item. Despite the upgrade, the inflight entertainment portal was unavailable, and the wireless network gave out quickly, leaving passengers with limited entertainment options.

Smartwings, a Czech airline, offers three fare products: Lite, Plus, and a higher tier. While the Plus fare provides more amenities, including a checked bag and seat assignment, the inflight entertainment and wireless network could be improved. The passenger's experience with the Smartwings iOS app was also disappointing, as it lacked real-time flight status updates and only showed a delayed indicator despite the actual delay.
