Revamped Club World of British Airways is merely satisfactory

In a recent flight review, the new Club World Suites on British Airways' 777-300ER received a mixed response. The suites, introduced on the Singapore to London route, offer several advantages to passengers, including direct aisle access for every seat, an upmarket cabin design, and fully flat beds with extra legroom options, particularly at bulkhead seats.

However, the service experience was notably underwhelming, falling short of the "top-class magic" expected from premium cabins on British Airways. The crew interactions were disappointing, with a sense of stress and a feeling that requests were an imposition. The service was rushed and transactional, without any overtly rude interactions but also lacking exceptional customer service.

The Club Suite's door, intended to offer extra privacy, did not close properly on the author's suite. The seat provides extra legroom due to the foot recess being in the bulkhead, but the seat layout may be uncomfortable for side sleepers due to limited leg and knee space. The bed is relatively firm as British Airways did not provide a proper, full-sized seat topper. The provided small padded overlay moves during sleep and is ineffective for comfort.

Despite these drawbacks, the suites offer several comfort-enhancing features. A large pillow, blanket, bottle of water, comfort pack, and amenities from The White Company were provided. The duvet and pillow are soft and well-sized. The comfort pack contained an eye mask, earplugs, socks, and hand and body lotion.

The entertainment features and audio equipment, such as noise-canceling Meridian headphones and a large touchscreen IFE, were well-received. However, the IFE library had a variety of options, but the reviewer did not use it much due to prioritizing sleep.

Breakfast was served a few hours out of Heathrow, with the option of Spinach and Feta Frittata. Supper on the flight consisted of a scaled-back meal, with the option of Grilled Beef fillet.

In summary, the new Club World Suites on the 777-300ER offer direct aisle access for all seats, an upmarket cabin design with pleasant lighting, extra legroom at bulkhead seats beneficial for tall passengers, and fully flat beds. However, the beds are relatively firm, and the service quality is disappointing compared to expectations. Additional amenities include luxury-brand pillows and blankets, a water bottle, and a White Company comfort pack with sleep aids and lotion.

| Pros | Cons | |----------------------------------------------------|---------------------------------------------------| | Direct aisle access for every seat | Service quality disappointing compared to expectations | | Upmarket, modern cabin design with pleasant lighting | Firm bed; lack of pyjamas or large mattress topper | | Extra legroom at bulkhead seats beneficial for tall passengers | Mattress overlay too small and moves during sleep | | Fully flat bed | - | | Quality pillows, blankets, and comfort pack | - | | Good food and entertainment options | - |
