Ralph Fiennes Offers Fresh Insights Regarding the 28-Year-Old Matter

This year, there was news that Danny Boyle and Alex Garland were revisiting the zombie genre with "28 Years Later", a continuation of the popular post-apocalyptic series last seen in 2007 named "28 Days Later". Apparently, this isn't just one movie, but the first of at least three, featuring prominent actors like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, and Ralph Fiennes, along with a returning Cillian Murphy.

There haven't been many updates about the film since then, but Fiennes recently shared some insights on its plot during an interview with IndieWire. Set 28 years after the Rage Virus' return, Britain plunged into a state of zombie chaos. According to Fiennes, the story revolves around a young boy determined to find a doctor to save his dying mother. Instead of venturing out alone, the boy takes his mother through "this breathtaking northern English landscape", eventually encountering a doctor who serves as a "force for good".

As of now, the entire cast of "28 Years Later" consists of adult actors, with not much detail available about their roles within the story (even Jim's bike courier role played by Murphy is unspecified). Regarding the upcoming trilogy, Fiennes revealed that two out of the three movies have already been filmed. The second movie, reportedly entitled "The Bone Temple", will be directed by Nia DaCosta from "The Marvels". It's uncertain if the good doctor will reappear in part two or if Murphy will be featured more prominently, but fans can expect more of him as he was spotted filming scenes for "The Bone Temple" in September.

We'll have to wait until "28 Years Later" hits theaters on June 20, 2025, to find out more about how it develops the "28 Days Later" storyline.
