Munich Airport Welcomes 40 Millionth Passenger in 2024, Marking Strong Recovery

Munich Airport, a vital international hub and economic gateway for Bavaria, has marked a significant milestone in its recovery. The airport welcomed its 40 millionth passenger in 2024, demonstrating a strong rebound from the pandemic.

Christine Valair from Vancouver became the 40 millionth passenger, greeted upon arrival by Munich Airport CEO Jost Lammers and Oliver Dersch. This achievement highlights the airport's resurgence, reaching 87 percent of its 2019 passenger traffic.

Private travel has driven this recovery, accounting for 98 percent of pre-crisis levels. Three-quarters of passengers traveled for personal reasons. Business travel, while accounting for a quarter of flights, has reached 64 percent of its previous level. Transfer traffic has also seen a boost, increasing to 42 percent, four percent more than before the pandemic.

Dominik Lelle, a passionate aviation enthusiast and member of AERO INTERNATIONAL's online editorial team, noted the airport's importance as a global connector. He praised its resilience and adaptability in the face of industry challenges.

Munich Airport's 40 millionth passenger in 2024 underscores its status as a key international hub. The airport's recovery, driven by private travel and a strong transfer traffic increase, bodes well for its continued role as an economic gateway for Bavaria.
