An Epic Journey for a Noble Cause - Paddling the Weser Around the Clock
Fundraising Endeavor on the Weser River: Participating Around the Clock - Misadventures Pursued for Altruistic Reasons - Daybreak and Nightfall Along the Weser
Hey there! A group of gutsy blokes are gearing up for an incredible 430-kilometer expedition on an oversized stand-up paddleboard (SUP), peddling their way from Hann. Münden in the Göttingen district to Bremerhaven. This fearless foursome, known as Weser4Lions, plan to tackle this colossal distance in a staggering 100 hours, cruising both day and night on the water. Their mission? To raise much-needed funds for the children's hospice Löwenzahn through this daring endeavor.
Sweet Dreams on the River
As night falls, the team employs a clever rotating sleep schedule. "At night, two of us can catch some z's by stretching out lengthwise on the board, while the other two continue to paddle," Axel Bischof, one of the participants, shares with the German Press Agency at the weir in Hameln. Last night was chilly, but Bischof assures, "It was bracing, but it was still a hoot because we had a fantastic sunrise." Prioritizing safety, the lads don life jackets and secure themselves to the board during slumber.
Dry Land Stops
"Along the way, there are seven locks that we have to exit the water and portage, just like in Hameln," Bischof explains. These moments provide a brief break to grab a bite or scoff something quick. But don't worry about their grub, as they've got two support vehicles tagging along. "They can be called, and we'll have whatever we need delivered straight to the board," Bischof says. They've got water, energy bars, and chow on board as well.
An Adventure for Something More
Ulf Schwarz, another brave paddler, states, "We're embarking on this crazy adventure to champion remarkable projects like Löwenzahn. We genuinely believe that hospice work is beyond crucial." The guys are backing an outstanding cause, as it's no secret that hospices across Germany are rock stars in their respective fields.
Rough Waters Ahead
Schwarz confesses that freezing nights and the combined forces of wind and weather present battles to overcome. "Headwind is a beast, and we need to watch out for tides once we hit Bremen. For six hours, we'll coast thanks to the tides - that'll be sweet - but for another six hours, the North Sea will slap us around," he warns.
