Marburg commemorates International Children's Day

On September 20, 2020, the city of Marburg celebrated World Children's Day with the Intercultural Family Festival. The event, held in the district of Cappel at Bürgerhaus, Goethestraße 1, brought together children, families, and the community to celebrate children's rights and well-being.

The festival was a collaborative effort by the city's youth welfare office, multiple associations, social organizations, and cultural institutions, as part of the Semana Latina. Visitors had the opportunity to get an impression of the work done by Marburg's institutions for children's well-being and development at the information stands.

The festival's program included music, theater, creative and sporting activities, and a participatory children's disco. Clownin Gina Ginella entertained the crowd with her performance, while an intercultural potluck buffet allowed for a shared meal and cultural exchange.

The theme of the festival was 'Colorful Together,' emphasizing the importance of children's rights as a key element of democracy. A child-friendly rally connected the different stands, inviting children to learn about and collect different children's rights using a children's rights passport.

Children were also invited to design and build children's rights blocks that would serve as 'pillars of democracy.' The artwork exhibition, with the theme 'My (New) Neighborhood,' showcased the creative works of the young participants.

For more information about the festival's program, visit the youth welfare office's website. The Intercultural Family Festival was organized by Quartiersmanagement Cappel and Fachdienst Migration and Refugee Assistance. The festival took place from 2 to 5 PM, but the celebrations continued into the evening with a children's conference held at the Waggonhalle from 6 to 8 PM.

The Intercultural Family Festival was a wonderful celebration of children's rights and a testament to the power of community collaboration. Everyone was welcome to join in the fun and help make a difference in the lives of children in Marburg.
