Lisbon Crowned World's Happiest Holiday Destination
Lisbon, Portugal, has been crowned the world's happiest holiday destination. A recent study, considering factors like sunlight, green spaces, and healthy dining, placed the city at the top of the list.
The study, which also looked at noise and light pollution levels, found that Lisbon's abundance of healthy restaurants and green space per person significantly contributed to its high 'feel-good factor'. Other destinations that scored high include Helsinki, Finland; Orlando, Florida, USA; Athens, Greece; and Edinburgh, Scotland.
The research suggests that factors often present in a good holiday, such as sunlight, movement, food, and quality rest, can influence happy hormones like serotonin, dopamine, endorphins, and oxytocin. Besides Lisbon, other cities with high 'feel-good factors' were Bali and Ubud in Indonesia, and Tulum in Mexico.
The happiness experienced in a destination can vary based on individual preferences. However, this study provides a close ranking of cities based on available data. Lisbon's walkability and nearly 3,000 hours of annual sunshine were key factors in its top ranking.
