Lisbon Boosts Wine Tourism with Moscatel's Golden Liqueur

Turismo de Lisboa, a non-profit organisation promoting Lisbon's tourism since 1998, is boosting the city's wine scene. With around 900 members, it aims to enhance the quality and competitiveness of Lisbon's tourism, including its renowned Moscatel wine.

Moscatel, a golden liqueur wine with intense aromas of flowers, fruits, and honey, is produced by notable wineries like José Maria da Fonseca and Bacalhôa. These wineries, located south of Lisbon in the Serra da Arrábida hills and the fertile plains along the Sado River, contribute significantly to the international reputation of Moscatel wine.

The Lisbon region offers diverse wine experiences. Visitors can enjoy guided tastings, vineyard hikes, and the annual 'Harvest in Lisbon' event. This event allows participants to engage in the harvest, gastronomic routes, cellar tours, and themed experiences highlighting the region's terroirs. Within a few kilometers, visitors can discover classified vineyards and family-owned wineries, learning about indigenous grape varieties like Arinto from Bucelas or Ramisco from Colares.

Moscatel, with its rich history dating back to ancient times, is a testament to Lisbon's culinary diversity. Its versatility in pairing, from fresh, fruity notes to complex nuances, makes it a unique addition to the city's attractions.
