Life Transformations in Switzerland by October 2025: Key Updates and Modifications

Switzerland is gearing up for a series of changes and exciting developments across various sectors, with many of them taking effect from October 2025. Here's a roundup of what you need to know.

Travel

Zurich Airport is expanding its services, offering increased connections to popular destinations such as Rome, Manchester, Porto, Naples, and Krakow. If you're dreaming of a sunny getaway to Malta, easyJet will commence two weekly flights from October 26th. Additionally, easyJet is launching two new routes from Geneva, flying twice a week to Rennes and Skopje. Swiss airline SWISS will also intensify its services to Rome, starting from the same date.

For those looking for a winter sun escape, Edelweiss Air has added two destinations in Cape Verde for the Fall/Winter season. The autumn school break in most Swiss cantons falls during October, lasting either one or two weeks, depending on the canton. October 26th marks the start of the Fall/Winter timetable for flights to and from Switzerland.

Immigration

Switzerland will introduce the EU's new Entry/Exit System (EES) from October 12th. Geneva and Zurich airports will be among the first to implement checks for non-EU travelers. The EES start date is currently set for a six-month phased introduction, starting October 12th, 2025.

Insurance

If you're considering switching to a cheaper insurance in 2025, you'll need to make the change by November 30th at the latest. Premiums for obligatory health insurance are expected to increase next year, with some cantons seeing a larger increase than others.

Rent

Tenants will be informed about the previous rent and their right to contest it through the use of an official form. The use of this official form is intended to encourage landlords to exercise restraint when increasing rent or changing tenants. Starting October 1st, the cantons may require the use of this official form for the notification of initial rent when concluding a new residential lease.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to monitor changes in Switzerland. Happy planning!
