Liechtenstein Honors Princess Gina With Scenic Mountain Trail
Liechtenstein has dedicated a scenic trail to Princess Gina, the mother of Prince Hans-Adam II, who passed away in 1989. The Princess Gina Trail, a varied ridge trail above Malbun, was named in her honour for her commitment to biodiversity and mountain region protection. The same year, most of Liechtenstein's alpine area was declared a plant protection zone.
The trail commences at the Sareis mountain station above Malbun, leading hikers through rugged terrain with vibrant alpine flowers. It ascends to the Sareiserjoch and further up to the Augstenberg summit, reaching an impressive 2,359 m (7,739 ft) above sea level. The path offers stunning panoramic views and a genuine mountain experience.
The trail narrows and becomes more challenging, providing true hiking enjoyment. It descends from the Augstenberg to the Pfälzerhütte, located at the Austrian border and 2,046 m (6,713 ft) above sea level. The Pfälzerhütte serves as the starting point for the Liechtenstein Trail to Schesaplana.
The Princess Gina Trail, named after the princess who valued nature's diversity, offers hikers a rewarding journey through Liechtenstein's rugged beauty. The trail combines nature, panoramic views, and a challenging hike, making it a must-do for outdoor enthusiasts.
