Kazakhstan Unveils €40B Transport Infrastructure Plan, Welcomes European Investment

Kazakhstan's Minister of Transport, Marat Karabayev, visited Brussels to present ambitious plans for the country's transport infrastructure. He proposed opening 22 airports and ports to European investors at the Global Gateway Forum.

Karabayev and European officials discussed increasing flight frequencies and adopting modern technologies in airport infrastructure. Siemens Mobility's Stefan Bobsien shared plans to modernize Kazakhstan's railway sector, including energy-efficient locomotives and digital systems. The European Investment Bank (EIB) signed an agreement for joint investment in Kazakh transport infrastructure during Karabayev's visit.

Karabayev also met with DB Cargo Eurasia GmbH to discuss rail freight transport between the EU and Central Asian states. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the EIB for joint investments in Kazakh transport infrastructure. A direct flight connection between Shymkent and Munich was highlighted during a meeting with Munich Airport's CEO. Siemens expressed interest in participating in national and regional transport projects in Kazakhstan.

The liberalization of Kazakh airspace has led to a significant increase in freight traffic and logistical activity. Karabayev presented an investment program worth around 40 billion euros, including road and railway construction, airport and seaport expansion, and modernization of over 4,700 km of road and 1,300 km of railway track.

Karabayev's visit to Brussels has opened new avenues for European investment in Kazakhstan's transport infrastructure. The proposed projects aim to improve connectivity, efficiency, and competitiveness in the sector. Both sides have shown strong support for these initiatives.
