Kazakhstan Kicks Off Ambitious endeavor to Bolster Mountain-based Leisure Activities
The Amanat Party in Kazakhstan has recently unveiled an ambitious project aimed at transforming the country's mountain tourism landscape. Known as the Alatau Amanaty project, it promises to create a 1,200-kilometer national trail that stretches from the Charyn Canyon to the Tamgaly Tas archaeological complex[1][2].
The project, launched officially in the Ayusai Gorge within the Ile-Alatau State National Nature Park, is scheduled for completion within the next one and a half years[1]. It will pass through 24 infrastructure sites and 20 settlements, home to over 270,000 people[1].
The Alatau Amanaty project is designed to foster a comprehensive tourism ecosystem, encompassing ethno-villages, glamping and camping sites, visitor centers, rescue stations, and gastronomic and ethnocultural tourism venues[1]. A key focus is placed on involving rural communities to stimulate local economies[1][2].
Key attractions along the route include the Yesik State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve, the Kok-Zhailau tract, Butakov Gorge, the Alma-Arasan hot springs, Big Almaty Lake, the ancient Talhiz settlement (8th-13th centuries), and the Oi-Qaragai mountain resort[1].
The project is expected to promote both ecotourism and cultural engagement, creating a unique mountain tourism experience that balances adventure with cultural and gastronomic exploration[1][2][3]. The launch event featured a plogging (clean-up) activity as part of the Taza Kazakhstan environmental campaign.
With the Alatau Amanaty project, Kazakhstan aims to establish a complete ecosystem for domestic and international adventure tourism, integrating natural wonders, cultural heritage, and community participation[1]. The project is set to revolutionize Kazakhstan's mountain tourism, providing a memorable and immersive experience for tourists while supporting local communities.
