Kazakh Poet Zhambyl Zhabaev's 175th Anniversary Celebrated in Taraz

An exhibition celebrating the 175th anniversary of renowned Kazakh poet Zhambyl Zhabaev was held in Taraz. The event, 'Aitys aq tangeri, olen zhyrdyng dulduli', showcased the life and works of the legendary akyn, known for his improvisation and global impact.

The state historical and cultural reserve-museum 'Monuments of ancient Taraz' organised the exhibition. Veteran journalist and playwright Elena Alimzhan shared fond memories of Zhabaev as a good-natured person and brilliant improviser. Zhabaev's works have been translated into over 50 languages, reaching various countries worldwide.

The event also marked the cultural significance of Zhambyltanu, previously known as 'Zentrum der Volkskunst'. This cultural centre was renamed to honour Zhambyl Zhabaev, preserving his legacy and the spirit of traditional Kazakh poetry and music. Director Nurlan Bikibaev highlighted Zhabaev's role in promoting eternal human values.

The Zhambyl region, city of Taraz, and numerous streets, schools, and institutions bear Zhabaev's name. A meeting with his descendants, including Muratkhan, Batyrkhan, and Abdrakhman Zhambylov, was held. A round table discussion focused on Zhabaev's creative heritage. A monument to the poet stands near the regional akimat building in Taraz.

The exhibition and events commemorating Zhambyl Zhabaev's 175th anniversary celebrated his enduring influence on Kazakh culture and global literary heritage. His works continue to inspire and connect people across languages and borders.
