Exodus from the Middle East: A Special Air Lift from Jordan Lands in Frankfurt

Arrived in Frankfurt Airport via a special flight from Jordan - Jordanian aircraft touches down in Frankfurt Airport

Looks like another plane has touched down in Frankfurt, this time bringing a pack of Germans and their kin, who were stuck in the turbulent Middle Eastern nation of Israel, straight from the Jordanian capital of Amman. The evening flight marked the successful departure of 171 individuals, as the Foreign Office had informed earlier on X.

Tomorrow, another special airborne expedition has been lined up, but due to high demand, seats have already been accounted for. More flights are reportedly in the pipeline, as the Foreign Office disclosed. For those seeking to flee Israel, the task lies on their shoulders to make their way to the Jordanian border.

A number of European countries such as Poland have mobilized convoys to reach Jordan for their nationals. The Foreign Office urges Germans to register on its crisis preparedness system, Elefand.

Earlier, a ministry spokesperson emphasized that this wasn't an evacuation operation but a series of commercial "special flights" due to insufficient flight options provided by airlines. These flights will continue "as long as the situation is stable and there's a need."

The spokesperson didn't sugarcoat the tense and fluid nature of the region. "Israel's military operations in neighboring Iran persist, as does Iranian shelling on Israel. This has prompted closure of the airspace above these nations, effectively rendering flight departure options obsolete."

Germans must make their own way to Jordan

The German Foreign Ministry firmly declines organized excursions from Israel to the Jordanian airport, stating that such moves could pose additional risks. The primary advice on the ground for those affected is to adhere to the safety guidelines issued by Israeli authorities. "They keep on emphasizing that they generally advise against land travel and large gatherings at the moment," the spokesperson added.

Now, more than 4,000 Germans have registered on the German crisis preparedness list Elefand, noting their presence in Israel, while over 1,000 registrations have been noted for those in Iran.

The Foreign Office suggests Germans in Iran to venture across land to nearby nations like Armenia or Turkey, as border crossings there remain open. Exceptions can be made for those favoring the Azerbaijan border. Journeys onward from these countries can proceed via commercial flights to Germany. "Germans should take advantage of these travel opportunities to continue their journey to Germany," the statement advises. The embassy in Tehran stands ready to facilitate the departure, including direct interactions with Iranian authorities, in case possible.
