IPCC Report: Humans 'Primary Cause' of Warming, Urgent Action Needed

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is set to publish the first volume of its comprehensive report on climate change on Friday, September 27. The report, focusing on the physical science of climate change and its global impacts, comes amidst renewed calls for global action on warming.

The IPCC, which comprises specialists from various fields, has consistently strengthened its stance on human-induced climate change. In the upcoming report, the IPCC's conviction that humans are the primary cause of global warming has increased to 95%. This is a significant boost from the 90% confidence level stated in the 2007 report.

The draft report also addresses the recent slowdown in global warming, attributing it to temporary cooling cycles and lower-than-expected solar activity. However, it warns that the worst-case scenario predicts warming of more than triple the target set by vulnerable small-island states.

The IPCC's new report serves as a stark reminder of the urgency to address global climate change. After the 2009 Copenhagen Summit and the global financial crisis, climate change had slipped down the global agenda. Non-governmental organizations are now urging governments to revive the sense of urgency and take decisive action to mitigate climate change.
