India's First Cheetah Safari Launches in Kuno National Park on October 1, 2025
Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh has launched India's first cheetah safari, opening on October 1, 2025. Sixteen cheetahs now roam freely in the park's landscapes, offering visitors a unique opportunity to witness these magnificent cats in their restored habitats.
The safari operates in morning and evening slots, with vehicles maintaining a speed below 20 km/h to minimise disturbance to the wildlife. Visitors remain inside the vehicles at all times, ensuring the safety of both humans and animals. The Indian Forest Service (IFS) Association and the Indian Forest Department manage the project, with Uttam Sharma serving as the field director.
To enhance visitor comfort and extend stays, Kuno Retreat lodging and dining facilities are being developed. The safari is structured to minimise human interference, with scheduled gypsy drives and regulated vehicle entry. Revenue generated from safaris will fund habitat management, veterinary care, prey monitoring, and community outreach.
The cheetah safari at Kuno National Park is set to boost ecotourism in the region. Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary is next in line to become India's next cheetah haven. The best time to visit is from October to March for pleasant weather and higher chances of animal sightings. Access is via Ahira Gate and Peepalwadi Gate, with online booking available through kunocheetahjunglesafari.com.
