Increase in airport traffic by 4.8% in Portugal
In the first six months of 2025, Portugal's national airports experienced a significant increase in passenger traffic and commercial flight movements. According to Vinci, the owner of ANA in Portugal, the total passenger traffic reached 33.93 million, marking a 4.8% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Lisbon Airport, the country's busiest, handled 17.23 million passengers, accounting for 50.7% of the total. The airport saw a year-on-year increase of 3% in passenger traffic. Lisbon Airport continues to lead in terms of commercial traffic among ANA's managed airports, with 109,929 flights by the end of June, representing a 0.9% increase.
Porto Airport followed closely behind, registering 7.897 million passengers in the first half of 2025, marking a 5.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The airport also recorded a 4.5% increase in commercial flights, totaling 51,502 flights by the end of June.
Faro Airport reported the third-highest passenger traffic, with 4.620 million passengers handled, representing a 7% increase. The airport also saw a 7.6% increase in commercial flights, reaching 30,210 flights by the end of June.
Madeira Airport observed the largest growth among national airports, with a 12% increase to 2.687 million passengers in the first half of 2025. The airport also saw the highest increase in commercial flights among ANA's managed airports, with a 13% increase to 18,452 flights by the end of June.
In the Azores, both passenger traffic and commercial flights increased. ANA reported a 4.5% increase in passenger traffic, handling 1.499 million passengers in the first half of 2025. There was also a 3.6% increase in commercial flights, reaching 17,116 flights by the end of June.
These figures show steady growth in both passenger and flight traffic across Portugal's main airports managed by Vinci during the first half of 2025. The growth in Madeira and Faro airports reflects strong tourism demand, as these regions are popular tourist destinations. The data was released by Vinci, the owner of ANA in Portugal.
