Graubünden Solar Projects Face Environmental Resistance
Graubünden faces solar project controversies. Environmental groups like Pro Natura, WWF, and landscape foundations oppose plans, citing landscaping and tourism concerns. Alpiq has abandoned one project due to profitability issues.
Three large solar plants are proposed in Graubünden, with two already granted permits and four more in planning. However, previous projects like 'Nandro Solar' failed due to local resistance. The planned area above Sufers, in a sensitive alpine landscaping, has raised concerns about its impact on the environment and tourism.
Alpiq, the energy company behind the Sufers project, has not yet applied for a building permit. The company previously abandoned a solar plant project in Sufers due to uncertain political conditions and lack of planning security.
The future of solar projects in Graubünden remains uncertain. Environmental groups continue to protest, citing landscaping and biodiversity concerns. Alpiq's Sufers project is on hold, pending a building permit application.
