Germany's PalliativePARTNERS to Sign Charter for Seriously Ill and Dying People

On October 10, 2025, at 11:00 AM in Greifswald, a significant event will take place: the ceremonial signing of the Charter for the Care of Seriously Ill and Dying People in Germany. PalliativePARTNERS, initiated by Palliative Network Vorpommern GmbH, will commit to the Charter's five guiding principles, aiming to improve accompaniment and medical care for the seriously ill and dying.

The Charter, published in September 2010, is under the patronage of the German Hospice and Palliative Association and the German Nursing Council. It has been supported by various carriers, including the German Society for Palliative Medicine and the German Medical Association. Dr. Gisela Hoffmann, medical director of Palliative Network Vorpommern GmbH, emphasizes the importance of improving palliative care.

The Palliative Network Vorpommern aims to encourage more institutions to join the Charter, strengthening palliative care in the region. Already, notable signatories include Dr. Stefan Fassbinder, Mayor of Greifswald, University Medicine Greifswald, and the Greifswald Senior Citizens' Council. To raise awareness, Dr. Hoffmann, Dr. Dennis Nonnenberg, and Dr. Andreas Juchli are starting PalliativeDIALOG, a trilogy of lectures focusing on palliative medicine and health care planning. Mayor Fassbinder highlights Greifswald's high level of competence in palliative care.

The signing of the Charter marks a significant step towards enhancing the care and support for seriously ill and dying individuals in Germany. With the commitment of PalliativePARTNERS and other institutions, along with initiatives like PalliativeDIALOG, the quality of palliative care is set to improve, ensuring that those in need receive the best possible accompaniment and medical care.
