Expanding Transatlantic Flight Options: TAP Air Portugal Unveils 3 New Destinations for Travel to Portugal

TAP Air Portugal has announced significant growth in its transatlantic travel, introducing new routes and increasing frequencies to several key destinations in the United States.

One of the most anticipated additions is the year-round service between Los Angeles (LAX) and Lisbon (LIS), which was initially a seasonal route. The flights will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, using the fuel-efficient and comfortable Airbus A330-900 neo aircraft.

Another exciting development is the weekly direct flight from Terceira Island (Azores) to San Francisco (SFO), starting June 3, 2025. This route complements the Lisbon–San Francisco service and caters to the significant Azorean American community in California while promoting tourism to the Azores. The Airbus A330neo will also serve this route.

The new TAP Air Portugal route from Los Angeles to Lisbon will be the airline's longest flight to Terceira's airport, with a distance of 4,918 miles. Meanwhile, the new Terceira route will operate on Tuesdays until August 26, 2025, and will also use the Airbus A330-900neo.

The new routes, which also include Boston to Porto, Los Angeles to Lisbon, and San Francisco to Terceira in the Azores, are expected to attract a similar mix of Bay Area travelers, as Azores Airlines already operates nonstops from Terceira to Oakland, California.

TAP Air Portugal's director for the Americas, Carlos Antunes, stated that the new routes include the popular Portugal Stopover program, allowing travelers to enjoy up to 10 days in Portugal en route to any of their destinations in Europe.

With these expansions, TAP Air Portugal will offer over 100 weekly flights from 11 North America gateways to Portugal this summer. The "Big Three" U.S. airlines - American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines - have also announced expansions of their networks across Europe for next summer.
