Engage, Absorb, Interact: 'The Major Event' Overland Outing Surpasses Equipment
Overland Expo West 2025, held at XOverland Ranch in Montana, was a four-day adventure extravaganza that attracted over 700 enthusiasts. The event, organised by Clay and Rachel Croft, founders of Expedition Overland, showcased the latest overlanding gear and innovations, with a mix of durable vehicles, practical camping gear, power solutions, and helpful digital tools for expedition planning and vehicle management.
The showcase vehicles and rigs included a variety of overlanding vehicles such as the Bellfab Desert Tech Land Cruiser, a 2023 Ram 3500 used for training, Guild Outfitters' 2025 Toyota Tacoma, Midland Radio's Overland-ready Nissan Patrol Fire Truck, Nomad Wheels' 1993 FJ80, a 1967 Nissan Patrol, Supertramp Campers' Ford F250, and the 2025 GMC Sierra HD AT4X AEV Edition, dubbed the Ultimate Overland Vehicle.
In addition to the showcase vehicles, numerous new products were launched. MorrFlate, Gazelle tents, and Kakadu shower and wash basin were among the gear on display. Benchmade knives, VSSL compact coffee pour-over kits, Guzzle H2O big rig water systems, Daylodge Airhaven awnings, Ignik Taprack and pounders, Skullet (an upcoming product), and Red Arc integrated power wall and base wall systems for overland trucks were also featured. The Red Arc systems included an innovative collapsible kitchen setup with induction cooking and integrated fridge, all powered by Red Arc technology.
Specialty trailers, such as Jumping Jack Trailers tent trailers designed for ATV transport with quick-deploy pop-up tents and heavy-duty canvas construction, offering spacious interiors and ventilation, were also showcased.
Digital gear was not left behind, with the Overland Glovebox Guide (OGG) app launched, providing centralized vehicle info, expedition checklists, maintenance tracking, and technical guides based on extensive expedition experience.
Workshops and classes were held throughout the event. Justin Walker from Warn Industries demonstrated safe usage of vehicle recovery equipment, while Emily Miller taught a class on map-and-compass navigation. Chris Walker (Lantra) helped participants sort out their vehicle recovery kit. A workshop on documentary photography was provided, focusing on visual storytelling from various international locations.
Emily Miller, Nena Barlow (Barlow Adventures), and the Rebelle U team led a female-only driving session. Farfetched Adventures provided insights into doggy first-aid in the field. The event also featured an "Inspiration Hub" where attendees could write down their future overlanding goals.
Nomadic presenters such as Dan Grec, Patty Upton, and Ellie and David shared their experiences of traveling, overlanding, and journeys through various countries. Activities included fly-casting lessons, welding class, backcountry cooking seminar, map-and-compass navigation class, and doggy first-aid in the field.
