Delta Air Lines Boosts Portugal Tourism with New JFK-Porto Flight
Delta Air Lines is set to boost Portugal's tourism, particularly from the US, with a new direct flight from New York's JFK Airport to Porto starting May 21, 2026. This move follows a 5.2% increase in Portuguese tourism in 2024, with the US being the third-largest source market, contributing 2.3 million visitors.
Porto, ranked seventh best city to visit in Europe in 2025, will benefit from this new route. As Portugal's second most-popular destination and a gateway to the renowned Douro Valley wine region, Porto is poised to attract more American tourists. This new flight will provide the same convenience for Europe-bound flyers departing from JFK as the existing flights from Newark Liberty International Airport.
Delta Air Lines' expansion includes not only Porto but also six other European destinations. The US east coast will have four direct flights to Porto, with existing services from Newark and Boston. The new routes from JFK Airport will connect to Barcelona, Madrid, Malta, Nice, Rome, and Sardinia.
The new direct flight from New York's JFK Airport to Porto, starting in spring 2026, is expected to further boost Portugal's tourism, particularly from the US. With Porto's appeal and the convenience of direct flights, American tourists are likely to increase, contributing to Portugal's growing tourism industry.
