Delights of the Past, Love Stories, and hearty Meals: a three-day sojourn in enchanting Bologna
Step into the kitchen of the fair Bologna and awaken your taste buds with a tantalizing whirl!
Chiara waved those captivating eyes at us, as we leaned into our lambrusco, eagerly waited the beckoning call of inviting food. "A little of this, a little of that?" she summoned with a fluttering smile. We nodded feverishly, unbeknownst to us, in for a feast that would leave our wallets light, yet spirits high. Bologna, a city as beguiling and underrated as the renowned compliments gifted by Chiara, was about to cast its spell over us.
The locals of this warm, liberal city are a testament to the Italian spirit, kind, friendly, and daring. But like the unforgettable limoncello shots bestowed upon us on our departure, it's the unexpected that keeps you coming back for more. Better yet, don't begrudge the additional euros spent at Chiara's restaurant. The city of porticos and unending, maze-like alleyways is a place you wish to get perpetually lost in.
Two visits in six months became a testament to Bologna's claim over my heart. The daily pizza slices to die for, the hearty, family-run osterias, and the masterpieces of frescoes in the world's oldest university were but a few drops in the ocean that encapsulated this gastronomic haven. Emilia Romagna, one of Europe's most famous food destinations, earned this title for a reason. Still, it fed not only my stomach but also my soul.

Day 1 - The Many Faces of Bologna

Here, medieval palaces stand beside Romanesque cathedrals, with a few intriguing sights beckoning from the square itself.
Start with the Basilica di San Petronio, the most significant church Bologna has to offer, dating back to the 14th century, and one of the largest in Europe. Despite its incomplete marble facade, the interior is a marvel to behold.
Adjacent to the basilica, Palazzo dei Banchi, a 16th-century palace, is worth a peek into. Strolling through its archways will guide you to Via Pescherie Vecchie, a charming street teeming with cafes perfect for a quick break.
