Coastal Research Forum to Tackle Climate Challenges and Competing Demands

Coastal regions worldwide face significant challenges due to climate change and competing demands. The first Coastal Research Forum, 'Rethinking Coastal Spaces: Risks, Challenges, Opportunities', will take place in Hannover on September 11 and 12, 2025. Hosted by the Coastal Research Center (CRC), it aims to address these issues.

Coastal spaces serve as both living and economic hubs, home to sensitive ecosystems and key to the energy transition. However, climate impacts like rising sea levels and frequent extreme events are putting pressure on these areas. The forum, led by CRC director Professor Torsten Schlurmann, will delve into these challenges through keynote speeches, presentations, and panel discussions. It will bring together representatives from science, business, society, and politics to discuss sustainable strategies for shaping, using, and protecting coasts.

The Coastal Research Forum seeks to rethink coastal spaces, balancing risks and opportunities. By fostering dialogue among key stakeholders, it aims to inform and guide coastal developments in the face of significant changes.
