BC PNP Initiates Major Changes, Invites 94 Candidates in First 2025 Draw

British Columbia has initiated significant changes to its Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) while holding its first skills immigration draw of 2025. The draw invited 94 candidates, with invitations evenly split between two criteria.

The BC PNP has introduced several modifications, including pausing general and priority occupations draws, waitlisting applications for the IPG Stream, and postponing new student immigration streams. Additionally, the Health Authority Stream has been limited, and Early Childhood Educator Assistants have been excluded from education draws. These changes aim to prioritize candidates who align with the province's labour market needs.

The May 8 draw invited candidates based on holding a minimum wage of $105/hour in a skilled job at NOC TEER level 0, or scoring at least 150 points on the BC PNP's candidate scoring system. The province plans to nominate approximately 100 candidates through its high-economic skills immigration pathway this year, with the remainder allocated to front-line healthcare workers and entrepreneurs. Overall, the BC PNP plans to accept only 1,100 net new applications for provincial nomination in 2025. Future draws may consider additional factors such as education, professional designation, language skills, occupation, work experience, wage, and strategic priorities.
