Auction off Animation Artifacts and Rarities to Gather Funds for Los Angeles Wildfire Emergency Aid
Let's Help the Animation Crew!
The animation industry is teaming up with ASIFA-Hollywood to launch AnimAID, and a swanky auction at Sotheby's is about to rake in some cash for those in the industry hit hard by the LA wildfires. Major studios like Disney, Warner Bros., Sony, DreamWorks, and LAIKA have tossed some rare and one-of-a-kind pieces of animation art into the ring for savvy bidders.
The online bidding went live this week and aims to assist artists and pros in the animation industry who have been displaced or lost their homes as LA keeps picking itself up. Animation producer Don Hahn, known for his work on Beauty and the Beast and the upcoming Howard, spoke up about it on Instagram:
"The animation world is in a pickle thanks to the LA wildfires. Now, AnimAID's got everyone's back and collecting some fantastic artwork to auction off through Sotheby's. The loot goes straight to those suffering from the fires."
The collection spans over 90 years of unbelievable art, with props from silver screen staples like Snow White, TV hits like The Simpsons, Inside Out, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Avatar, and many other legendary titles.
Hahn added, "You dropping a bid helps people get back on their feet and rebuild their homes."
Bidding is currently underway, and here's a sneak peek at some auction goodies. You can also find film industry artist commissions, tours of the animation studios, autographed posters, and more, along with original production drawings and animation cells.
