Alzey-Worms District to Conduct Major Flood Exercise 'Flood 2025' on November 8

On November 8, 2025, the district of Alzey-Worms will conduct a major full exercise, 'Flood 2025', focusing on reviewing and optimizing alarm and deployment plans in response to potential flooding. The exercise will take place in the particularly vulnerable communities of Eich, Gimbsheim, and Hamm along the Rhine.

The 'Flood 2025' exercise aims to test techniques, tactics, communication, and organization in complex deployment situations. It will involve various deployment forces, including firefighters, disaster protection, technical relief, Kreisverbindungskommando of the Bundeswehr, police, state ministries and agencies, administration, and other organizations. This interdisciplinary cooperation is crucial in civil protection, as flooding is one of the greatest natural hazards in Rhineland-Palatinate, with real consequences such as impassable streets and basement flooding.

The exercise will also involve increased deployment vehicle traffic and corresponding exercise scenarios in the area of the Verbandsgemeinde Eich. As a result, the county road K45 between the intersection L440 and the Natostraße in Hamm will be temporarily fully closed on November 8, 2025. A guided press tour is invited to accompany the exercise, starting at 11:45 AM at Eich's municipal building.

The 'Flood 2025' exercise demonstrates the importance of preparedness and coordination among various organizations in responding to natural exercises. The temporary closure of the county road K45 is a necessary measure to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the exercise. The event serves as a reminder of the potential impacts of flooding and the need for continuous improvement in emergency response plans.
