James Houghton, a renowned television actor, passed away at the age of 75 on August 27, 2022, in his Encino, California home. The cause of his death was peritoneal mesothelioma cancer, and his demise was only recently announced.

Born on November 7, 1948, in Los Angeles, Houghton kicked off his acting career with a guest role in the Charles Bronson TV drama, "Man with a Camera," in 1959. His stint on small and big screens included appearances in "The Twilight Zone," "McKeever & the Colonel," and "Alias Smith and Jones," among others. In daytime television, Houghton portrayed lawyer Greg Foster in "The Young and the Restless" from 1973 to 1976.

In 1977, Houghton bagged his first primetime series role as Rick Wilson in the short-lived CBS action-adventure, "Code R." The series centered around the emergency services of the California Channel Islands. Following the series, Houghton joined "Knots Landing" in 1979 as Kenny Ward, spending four seasons on the show.

By season five, original cast members, including Houghton, were removed from the series. However, Houghton shifted to writing and co-authored three episodes of "Knots Landing" with his sister, Mona, in 1982. Post-"Knots Landing," Houghton had guest spots on shows like "Fantasy Island," "Trauma Center," "Hotel," and "Remington Steele."

He shared four Daytime Emmy Awards as a member of "The Young and the Restless" writing team. Houghton also declined a cameo appearance in the 1997 "Knots Landing: Back to the Cul-de-Sac" miniseries.

James Houghton is survived by his wife, Karen; his mother, Wanda; his sister, Mona; his children, Daniel and Alisa; his son-in-law, Jim; and his grandson, Milo.
